One of the saddest things I’ve ever seen . . .

. . . was UNC’s paltry performance against Kansas on Saturday night. They previously seemed to be steamrolling their way through any team in their path (see Mount St. Mary’s, Arkansas and Washington State). I came into Saturday’s game thinking they would have the same sharpness and tenacity. Instead, Roy’s Boys looked like the BJJH Orange and White All-Star Game (i.e. they rotted and stunk like carrion; I also realized that BJJH’s colors are no longer orange and white but please allow me a little reminiscing leeway). In fact, I was confident after watching the first 12 minutes of the game that a group of grossly obese nuns dressed in their full-habit garb or possibly even a group of one-legged, one-armed, one-eyed Canadians could readily dismantle UNC (side note: I actually did not watch the entire first 12 minutes because I was sickened to the point of vomiting over the state of UNC’s play. I left for about 5 of these minutes. But I was unfortunately kept alert to the game’s progress by the claps, cheers and howls from my KU loving wife).

Like a true fan, I watched the remainder of this painful game because I was clinging to the hope that UNC would mount an unlikely comeback. Instead, they decided to toy with me.

Likely halftime conversation in UNC’s locker room – Psycho T: “Let’s score enough points to get with a couple baskets and then tank.” Wayne Ellington: “Ok, but let’s actually get to within four, then put on pirate patches, so we can’t actually see to play defense.” Ty Lawson: “Sounds good. But let’s also give each other wedgies to ensure that we can’t run down the court.” Danny Green: “Shouldn’t we check this plan with coach.” Psycho T: Shut up, Danny! This will be more fun than actually winning the national championship. No one will expect this one. HA HA HA!!!”

Well, I suppose after all of this ranting and raving you would expect me to not cheer for UNC anymore. But that cannot be. Alas, I am a true fan in both the good and bad times. So, let’s get ‘em next year. Go Heels!!
